Combining their signing to Solitaire Recordings with the release of a new single, Little Kid had dropped ‘Thief On The Cross’. The track is driven forward by its lyrics, which use biblical imagery to tell an amusingly self-deprecating tale of jealousy within the music industry. The lo-fi sound is endearing, with melodies reminiscent of the likes of Iron And Wine and a sense of deep, gritty funk beneath it all. Little Kid is the project of Kenny Boothby, who explains how “The song is about certain bands finding success while others don’t. Feelings of jealousy that might sprout from that, some perceived obligations for more successful bands to help out the newer ones, the awkwardness that can come from shifts in those power dynamics… but it’s definitely very tongue in cheek”.
